Pearlie Pettway Hall
Pearlie Pettway Hall was born in the Pettway Quarters in the heart of Gee's Bend. Early quiltmaking training led her through standard local designs; throughout life, she occasionally made traditional quilts for family and friends. But after she married Albert Hall from Rehoboth, and moved into a place whose quilt-piecing strays far from the norms of Gee's Bend, the more daring and unconventional her art grew. Daughter Queen Hall says about her, "She quilted any time she got cloth to do it with. She liked to do pattern quilts sometimes, and sometimes just put together something out of anything she got. You never know what she's going to do."
