Description

Rachel Carey George's "Star" is what Gee's Benders call a "string quilt," a collection of whatever odds and ends were on hand when the quilt was pieced. At first glance, the diversity of materials overwhelms the composition, but underneath the more or less random language of her strings lie "Star" and "Housetop" blocks that seem to emerge and recede into the heap of colors and prints.
