Seen here in Holley's yard in Birmingham in 1988, The Inner Suffering of the Holy Cost is a precarious assemblage of chains, barbed wire, worn-out shoes, a burnt headlight, a red-stained quilt, and other discarded materials, which Holley uses to hint at a soul in excruciating agony and to remind us, at the same time, of the possible tragedy awaiting humanity if it does not curb its current excesses.
